Senior Health and Wellness Expo Offers Free Well-Checks, Education, Services And More

Posted

JOLIET, Ill. — Feb. 28, 2019— Seniors ages 55 and older are invited to Louis Joliet Mall for its first annual senior healthcare expo, “Learning My Options: Senior Health & Well Checks.” The event is free and open to the public.

“We are proud to partner with Joliet-based Senior Services of Will County to host our first annual event designed to educate, inform and provide free well-checks for seniors in our community,” said Sandy Maldonado-Martinez, marketing director at Louis Joliet Mall. “Senior Services of Will County provides invaluable assistance to our senior population such as meal delivery, housekeeping, transportation and tax preparation, as well as a variety of caregiving programs, community resources and education. We are pleased to shine a light on the important work they do for our senior community.”

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, seniors are invited to Center Court in Louis Joliet Mall for free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, respiratory, hearing and skin. More than 30 vendors will provide the screening services, including local medical providers. Lunch will be provided by a local caterer and attendees can enter to win raffle prizes.

More than 80,000 adults ages 60 and over live in Will County, according to local government estimates. Wellness screenings can provide key preventive health measures and can monitor current health issues. According to the National Council on Aging, about 80 percent of older adults live with at least one chronic disease, while 77 percent live with at least two. There are four chronic diseases that cause two-thirds of death each year—heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

The “Learning My Options: Senior Health & Well Checks” event is offered as part of Louis Joliet Mall’s Live 360°. Live 360° offers community groups free space in the mall to provide interactive programs, classes, demonstrations, workshops and more.
